DJ ADFoster “Music Is My Drug” is a musical therapy

If music be the food of love, play on,” says Duke Orsino to his servants and musicians in William Shakespeare’s play Twelfth Night. Duke Orsino, exasperated by his love for Olivia, craves music to fill the void, comparing its captivating power to the charms of the woman who has captured his heart.

For Duke Orsino, unrequited love is a curse that can be cured by the healing power of music.

Unlike Duke Orsino, for DJ ADFoster, “music is a drug”. We don’t know about his ailments or affliction but he seeks solace and healing in the therapeutic power of music. Since food and drugs are meant to nourish the body and soul, both are essential for the survival of humans.

“Music is My Drug” is a melange of different genres: psychedelic pop, EDM, progressive rock, and trance. It’s purely instrumental, save for the soothing female voice whispering “Music Is My Drug” every interval. This gives it a trance-like inducement of a drug. Or something sobering, more like a deeper reflection after a tragic incident.

The song is sanative, which perhaps suggests it replaces psychedelic drugs, such as LSD, DMT, psilocybin, and ‘shrooms for a musical therapy. And what a melodious musical therapy it is, a true healing drug for the troubling souls.
