Fragile Creatures – Don’t Know What To Do

The art cover for “Don’t Know What To Do,” the latest single by Fragile Creatures, shows the portrait of a man sitting on a toilet seat; lost in thought and perhaps tired of this world. The image is a touching exploration of despair, dejection, and struggle for a direction in a world that often feels overwhelming.

Little wonder, the song begins with a glimmer of hope and despair. “Plato had it easy / Right place right time,” he sings, adding that it’s a perfect place to “write down his lessons, and make them last through time.” After a glimmer of hope of what Pluto offers, what follows is despair, where the artist sings that he “lacks inspiration” because he is “already past my prime”. As the song progresses, he captures existential frustration. The singer narrates how he battles with the feeling of inadequacy and lack of purpose. “I don’t know what to do,” he cries in the chorus.

As the song continues, the narrator’s despair becomes more palpable. He asks a friend called Jeeves for answers about his career trajectory, evoking the feeling of futility. But, instead of elevating the narrator’s sinking confidence, Jeeves tells him that he doesn’t possess the artist allure of (Frank) Sinatra. This comment further throws our narrator into a sunken place. “I don’t know what to do
In this world,” he laments.

“Don’t Know What To Do,” with its soft rock instrumentals and the singer’s emotionally filled voice, is a raw and vulnerable exploration of despair laden with existential doubt, creative frustration, and emotional fatigue. It’s a solemn save-my-soul call from a man in a career struggle and existential angst.
