“WhoYouAre (Stardust) 2.0”: A piece of cosmic proportions and reflection

According to Chris Thomas and The Merrymakers, who you are explains the stars you’re comprised of.

But then, do you know who you are?

Are you a bag of bones and flesh? Or “a forbidden fruit, fallen from a divine tree, where life tastes bittersweet?” These questions are hard to answer, right? You’re human, that’s what matters.

“WhoYouAre (Stardust)2.0” invites you on a journey of self-discovery.

The song opens with a gentle acoustic guitar, setting a contemplative tone. As the song progresses, layers of instrumentation build, creating a rich and immersive experience. The melody is soothing and uplifting, reflecting the song’s introspective nature.

The first verse is dedicated to everyone to look inward and reflect about who they are. The second verse is solely for Thomas, asking himself some salient questions. “Who am I,” he asks. “What’s to be of things,” he continues, adding that “is he on the right path, where is this all leading”.

Chris Thomas’s vocals are heartfelt as he delivers his words in a drawl, like someone in a trance. The chorus is particularly memorable, with harmonies that add to Thomas’ emotional sincerity. The production is pristine, it allows each fragment to shine without overpowering the others.

This song is not trying to chase trends or fit into a specific mold—it just exists, unapologetically itself. What makes it even more beautiful is that Thomas doesn’t want to force it on anyone to accept his ideology because it’s just conjured up for sober reflection.

With “WhoYouAre (Stardust)2.0”, Chris Thomas and The Merrymakers re-emphasis their ability to compose tracks that leave a lasting impact, fostering reflection and a hopeful perspective.

“Who you are, explains the stars / And you’re shining, on, after,” Thomas sings as he closes the song. What a way to end a song–a takeaway message for the listeners to chew and reflect on.
